Why are health checks important? According to Regina Rogers, they are important for various reasons. At White’s Pediatrics, we check to make sure our patients are developing the way they should be both mentally and physically. Some of the things we go over are physicals, nutrition, family unit, safety components, dental, vision, and violence prevention.
During a physical, it is important to do a thorough job. Some of the things we look for are anemia, urinalysis, diabetes, dehydration, kidney problems, and metabolic issues, exposure to lead, tuberculosis, and scoliosis. For preventative care, we do vaccines and referrals to specialists when needed. With older kids, it is important to discuss certain topics such as sex, drugs, and tobacco usage. During this time, parents have opportunity to ask questions.
Schools require physicals and need up to date vaccine records for enrollment. Most insurances require physicals yearly in order to continue medical coverage. Get your physical done before school starts. School starts 08/13 in Whitfield County, 08/06 in Gordon County, and 09/08 in Murray County. White’s Pediatrics of Dalton is having a Fun Health Check Day on 07/26 from 8am-5pm!
