The Coalition of Latino Leaders (CLILA) is a non-profit organization that has served the community of Northeast Georgia since 2006. Mrs. America Gruner president of this organization has dedicated herself to promoting the wellbeing of the population that resides in this region. Hundreds of persons have benefited from their services through the years that this agency has provided. Humanitarian visits to immigration detainees, homework club, English classes, citizenship classes, defense of rights, community organization and lobbying, filling out forms, immigration lawyer visits, voter registrations, voter education are only a few of the activities that CLILA organizes on a daily basis. The idea was to organize a carnival to fundraise for this well-known organization. The planning process was coordinated by Mrs. Gruner and supported by a good group of volunteers that assured they would put all of their energies so that the event would be a success. On Saturday November 5 from 6 to 9 pm at the CLILA offices located on Morris Street the fabulous carnival was held. The Latino melodies interpreted live by the musical group Corazon Norteño gave a lot of joy and rhythm to the event. The traditional Mexican plates could not be missed. Some volunteers prepared delicious plates and Mexican dishes: enchiladas, tacos, pambazos (a wet sandwich), pozole, gorditas, grilled beef and chicken were only a few of the succulent plates that were served to satisfy even the pickiest palate.
CLILA will use the monies raised to continue helping the community through their diverse programs, activities and services, as well as fighting for justice.
