This past Tuesday, November 8th was a special day for the young students, teachers and administration personnel from Valley Point Head Start; the motive was the inauguration of their new facilities that took place at 1 pm with the ribbon cutting and afterwards a tour of the new wings.
On December 2010, just two days before the beginning of the Christmas vacation period, a fire destroyed the preschool education rooms. The students evacuated the facilities directed adequately by the administrative and firemen from Station 5 answered the call of help to stop the fire. The facilities were declared a total loss. The students were able to conclude the 2010-2011 school year thanks to the help supplied by the Whitfield County Public Schools. The little students and the administrative personnel utilized classrooms generously assigned by the school system.
Becca Fulgham director of the North Georgia Head start Program mentioned that after the fire there were many positive reactions: “the response by the firemen was sensational, they arrived quickly to stop the fire and afterwards moved everything damaged by the fire and the water. They did more than they had to do.”
“A few days after the fire, Head Start received a generous donation of $2,500 from the company Textile Rubber and Chemical Inc. We used part of the money to buy coats for the children that they had left in the classrooms when they evacuated”, commented Mrs. Fulgham. “The Head Start institution is proud of forming a part of this marvelous community,” concluded Mrs. Becca Fulgham.
After the reconstruction that lasted 8 months, the small students can now use the new classrooms in their new facilities. Every day of classes, the happiness of the children can be heard through their laughter, songs and games at Valley Point Head Start.
